Senior referee, Mr Billy Wolstenholme, along with GSL Football Administrator, Mr Tony Coltman, attended an Assistant Referees training session held at Trafalgar Victory FC this week. The objective of the evening was to educate both club level players and volunteers of the important role played by the assistant referees as well as to review the basic rules of the game.
The TVFC Senior Women fully supported the session with all available players in attendance. Whilst a few parents and players from the Under 12 team also attended this valuable training opportunity. The session was delivered by Billy Wolstenholme who has 40 years experience in the game and currently officiates senior level competition. Billy kept the crowd entertained and fully engaged for roughly 90 minutes and was extremely generous in fielding questions and providing valuable explanations to all present. He blended an impressive mixture of personal experience and demonstrational videos to explain even the most challenging aspects of the game.
All present gained a valuable insight into the rules of the game and how matches are to be officiated. Every year Trafalgar Victory arrange a free Assistant Referee (AR) session to all members of the club. It is essential that parents and players embrace this type of opportunity if the club is to grow and prosper. Without this knowledge the club collectively runs the risk of becoming ignorant of the rules and incompitent in performing the AR role on match days. Both scenarios reflect poorly upon the club as a whole.
Billy runs an informative, professional and worthwhile program. He has already offered to return to our club again later in the season to repeat the same program to other members of the club. If the club provides such an opportunity, it is requested that all TVFC families try and make the time to attend for the growth and longevity of our great club.
