Although the weather was chillier than our first two games of the season, it was still a nice morning in Traralgon with no rain or frost.
The U6 team was made up of nine players this weekend – great numbers. To help balance the sides, James offered to pull on a black and white strip and help out TCSC for the first half. Thanks James!
In the end both teams fielded 6 players a side, meaning we were able to run two subs for the match. This kept super coach Michael Byrne (looking resplendent in TVFC’s new warm up apparel) busy, as he rotated players throughout the game. TVFC started strongly with Kade scoring one goal and Ivy and Lillian doing some excellent work in defence. Grace and John were attacking the ball really well and Xavier played an excellent role as sweeper – clearing the ball (often killing it by putting the ball out of play). Well done Xave! In the latter stages of the first half, TCSC capitalised on a brief lapse in concentration and scored, tying the game up at half time.
Our regular half time practice of replenishing energy levels with oranges did the trick and TVFC were eager to get the second half underway. Starting strongly, Kade and Ivy each scored goals. Some outstanding defence by Lillian was a highlight, with her tackles and clearing balls blunting many attacks by TCSC. Meanwhile, John, who helped City in the second half, was proving to be a real handful for our defence as he continued to attack. But for excellent defence by all players, he would have certainly found the back of the net on a number of occasions. Well done John!
Piper and Buckley (playing his first game) grew in confidence and provided great support in the field. James also returned in the second half and he provided a valuable contribution with hard running and tackling a highlight of his play. This week’s awards went to Xavier (Jump and Climb) and Ivy (B.K’s). A well rounded effort with contributions from all players a highlight. Well done to everybody!
