Round 8 was an exceptionally good one for the Trafalgar Women’s team after being brought back to earth with a thud by Fortuna last week.
We rebounded with everything we had and every player who went onto the pitch played with consistent intensity that was reflected in the comments to me from Sale’s players after the game – several said what an impressive team we are which is rare from opposition players.
The first half was almost perfect soccer; I’m sure the ball did go into our defensive half but I can’t remember it happening! Our relentless attacking created many opportunities that we couldn’t quite convert but I was so impressed with our passing and presenting that it almost didn’t matter (almost!).
In the second half we delivered on the goals that we promised in the first half. Tumi’s mesmerising skills produced 2 while Micky’s constant physical pressure in the middle of attack finally gave her a reward with a perfect knock-in from a cross.
We are all used to Hinesy’s massive determination and skill but that was up there with the best single performances that I’ve seen.
Trafalgar 3 Sale 0
I may have overdone the plaudits above but I was a proud coach after that game. Back to reality we are in a good position at 5th on the ladder but we are yet to beat anyone above us so that is the challenge!
