This week’s Under 14 Boys round 5 match was played between Trafalgar Victory and East Gippsland Gold.  The East Gippsland team, which comprised mostly of young ladies, were three players short at the start of the match and were under siege in the opening minutes of the game.

In the first seven minutes of the match there were goals to Darcy Lewis, Nic Tammes and Jack O’Connor.  The boys were passing the ball around like a pin ball machine.  Midfielders Jacob Holmes and Michael Judd provided silver service to their team mates, setting up goal after goal.

By the twelfth minute mark of the opening half, Darcy had scored twice more to register his first hat-trick of goals in club soccer and for Trafalgar Victory FC.  With the likelihood of a massive score line looming large, Coach Mark switch the players around and placed several of his strikers in the backline and vice versa.

This initially halted the onslaught of goals.  However, with Darcy taking his turn in the backline, midfielders started taking shots on goal.  First it was Michael Judd, then Nic Tammes and finally Jacob Holmes who score in the latter stages of the first half.  The half time score being Trafalgar 8 and East Gippsland Gold 0.

In a very decent gesture of sportsmanship Drew O’Brien offered to wear the gloves for the second half so that regular keeper Luke Ibbotson could have a run on the pitch.  It took Luke only two minutes up front before he too joined the ever expanding list of Trafalgar goal scorers.  It was great to see Luke convert a goal for his team and he celebrated accordingly.

Hardy Kenny played a great game and made numerous dashing runs along the wing.  Midfielder Nic Tammes also put on a masterclass of soccer skill as he weaved his magic in front of the Trafalgar spectators.  Whilst, Aidan Rothmeier added speed and strength to the left wing, generating many scoring opportunitiues.

The defensive unit held strong all day long.  Ably lead by Jackson Clerks and Connor Ibbotson the backline cleaned up any potential threats from the East Gippsland team.  Michael Judd added another further two goals in the midpoint of the second half.  His second came from a lovely strike some 30 meters from goal from a free kick.

With only a matter of 5 minutes left in the game Coach Mark released his backline into the midfield and placed his trusty midfield threesome into defence. Well, that was all the encouragement needed for Darcy who proceeded to score a further two goals, finishing with five for the game.  The final of which came from a corner kick which magically found its way through the East Gippsland defence.

A comprehensive win for the Trafalgar lads 13-0 in the end.  Flynn George proved extremely versatile and played numerus positions of the day, giving his heart and soul for the entire match.  Whilst, Finn Vardon-Phillips displayed considerable improvement in the month since his first match, stringing some nice passes together and making good position.  All players made a contribution towards the result and all should be proud of their efforts.

The BK’s Player of the Day was awarded this week to Darcy Lewis for his amazing five goals and willingness to play anywhere needed for the team.

TVFC also awarded the East Gippsland goalkeeper a BK’s voucher for her efforts all day long.  She made some amazing saves, almost with no care for her own safety.
