The run of magnificent weather conditions continued for this weeks Under 13 girls home game against Traralgon City. Brilliant blue skies and a gentle breeze meant the game was played at a very fast pace. Trafalgar started with a slight wind advantage and the ball spent most of the half in our attacking zone. Nat, Maddy and Skye all put the Traralgon defence under enormous pressure but we were unable to break through for a goal.
Both teams were evenly matched and the skill level was very good. The few times Traralgon attacked were shut down by the defence lead by Chloe, in goals, who was able to use the wind to advantage and put the ball into our forward line with long clearing kicks. Tia is having a very consistent season playing in the left full back position with her ability to tackle , win the ball and then complete a pass to a team mates advantage outstanding. At half time the score was 0:0.
The second half started with the breeze strengthening a little to provide Traralgon with a slight advantage. The Trafalgar defence stood firm and with Haylea running hard in the midfield, to create a very nice goal, we took the lead at the 41 minute mark. Traralgon responded but again it was the backline standing tall. The ball moved from end to end constantly and eventually the ball finished in the back of our net with a nicely taken goal by Traralgon. The last 5 minutes was very tense as both sides pushed to find a winner but it was Traralgon who scored in the 59th minute to end an extremely entertaining match 2:1 winners.
Both teams performed wonderfully in an even game. This weeks award winners were Natalie, Amber and Chloe. The whole team continues to improve every week and it is enormously pleasing to see the desire to pass and share the ball amongst the girls.
