Trafalgar Under 13 girls team started their 2016 campaign with the short road trip to Newborough Yallourn. With only 5 of last years team taking to the park it was a very inexperienced group that kicked off. After Traf had been dominating play for the first 10 minutes it was Newborough who scored first against the run of play. Trafalgar immediately responded when Haylea slotted home a brilliantly taken goal. When Livvie and Haylea each scored we went into half time with a 3-1 lead.

The second half saw us once again control much of the play and when Maddy scored it looked like we were going to have an easier time of it. Newborough kept persisting and scored twice to make the last 10 minutes rather more tense than we hoped. The Traf girls regained their composure to finish up winning 3:4

Some match highlights were:

Captain for the day Tia’s pin point passing

Chloe’s brilliant shot stopping by hand or foot

Livvie’s magnificent defensive game that constantly drove the ball back into attack

Haylea, Maddy and Natalie’s ability to weave through the defence

Amber, Gabby, Ivy, Mackenzie, Nyah, Paris and Skye all played their first game and all persisted and tried to utilise the skills they have acquired in the short time they have been training. The amount of improvement shown by them all is amazing to see.

It was a fantastic effort by the whole team and we look forward to next weeks first home game
