Trafalgar Victory FC is delighted to share with its members and the wider Trafalgar community that Baw Baw Shire has successfully applied for a $500,000 grant from SRV’s Female Friendly Facilities Fund to secure the funding necessary for the construction of a multi-sport pavilion upon the Trafalgar Recreation Precinct. The club has been working with BBSC, the Vic State Government and members of the Trafalgar Recreation Precinct for several years now and cannot wait for the construction of this pavilion. What initially started as a request for suitable showers and changerooms for the soccer club has expanded into a much bigger project which will provide facilities for the Trafalgar Cricket Club, the Trafalgar Junior Football Club, Trafalgar Victory FC, Gippsland FC and the Trafalgar Boxing Gym.

Baw Baw Shire today posted the following statement on their website “This project will see construction of a new multi-sport pavilion at Trafalgar Recreation Reserve with female-friendly changerooms and amenities, umpire facilities, new storage facilities, dedicated first aid room, a boxing gym and social/flex space to cater for soccer and boxing participants. Externally the pavilion will feature public toilets, a veranda with outdoor spectator viewing space, a canteen, accessible car parking, connecting pathways and landscaping. The pavilion will address the immediate lack of facilities with participation tracking at 3.5 times the Victorian average (prior to COVID-19). The design has been developed with true multi-use flexibility and future planning in mind to service the five sporting clubs from different codes including soccer, cricket, football and boxing. This $3.2 million project is being jointly funded by a $500,000 grant from SRV’s Female Friendly Facilities Fund and the $2.7 million balance by Baw Baw Shire Council. Works will commence following the tender award, with delivery to take place over two-years. All works due for completion by mid-2022.”

Trafalgar Victory FC, whilst having a quality playing service, has for years lacked suitable shower and toilet facilities. Today’s announcement provides the club with much optimism and confidence looking towards the post COVID-19 period. The club wishes to thank Baw Baw Shire Council. In particular the East Ward councillors, Cr Darren Wallace, Cr Michael Land Cr Peter Kostos who have been very supportive of this project over an extended period of time. Thank you also to the BBSC Recreation Team, lead by Coordinator Recreation Shane Paynter, for their ongoing work on the sizable project. The club would also like to offer its thanks and appreciation to the other Trafalgar Recreation Precinct stakeholders. The project announcement is a win for all at the precinct and indeed the entire Trafalgar community.

It is hoped that the construction of the new multi-user pavilion will encourage more of our community to get involved with local sport. Trafalgar has a proud sporting history and today has plenty to offer its community. There are numerous well ran sports clubs available, all of which offer a great service to Trafalgar and the surrounding district.
