The Trafalgar Victory FC Under 14 Boys team made it three from four with their 4-2 win against Moe United at Trafalgar on the weekend. The boys in red and white have now won three consecutive games at home and are starting to play an attractive and entertaining brand of football.
The game didn’t start well with Moe taking the lead early in the match, courtesy of a Trafalgar “own goal”. However, as they have done the majority of the season, Trafalgar fought hard to get back into the match and the scores were soon levelled when free kick specialist Michael Judd drove a lovely ball over the Moe wall and goal keeper. Michael had an excellent day in the middle of the park. He linked well with the defensive unit and played numerous good passes to advantage his fellow midfielders and forwards.
The Victory boys seemed to grow in confidence after their first goal and it wasn’t long before the took the lead outright. Logan Winter made a lovely run up the right wing, stringing some good passes together. Once at the side of the box he delivered a near perfect ball over the entire Moe defensive team, including the goalie, to literally hit Flynn George on the chest. To his credit, Flynn kept his cool and pushed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 2-1 to Trafalgar. Great service by Logan and a nice conversion from Flynn.
The Trafalgar backline was once again on top of their opposition. Both Stuart Beckley and Toby Budd owned the centre of the backline and provided great run for their team. Whilst, Lachlan Burke and Michael Wallace worked hard up and down their respective wings, also providing great service to their team mates.
When Logan Winter scored Trafalgar’s third goal of the half the game was definitely on the home teams terms. Logan made a smooth run into the attacking box, carving his way through the Moe defensive unit, then confidently converted the good work with a lovely strike into the back of the net. At half time the score was 3-1 in favour of Trafalgar.
With a nice two goal buffer, Coach Mark took the opportunity to try players in new positions. Toby pushed up front and Flynn had a run in the backline. The midfield too was being rotated and starting players rested on the bench. It was great to mix up the line up for a period of time to see what certain players had to offer the team structure. However. when Moe scored to made the difference only one single goal, the coach soon had the fab four backline together and the midfield back as normal.
Flynn George made a superbly timed run behind the Moe defensive line to create a one on one with the Moe keeper. Flynn sent the ball into the back of the net only to be denied the goal courtesy of most questionable offside call from the linesman. It was a perfect run and one that the team has been practicing for a number of weeks now. Unlucky Flynn.
Eventually the match was sealed by the teams fourth and final goal, courtesy of striker Logan Winter. The goal capped off a great day and ensured that Trafalgar would take the points against the higher ranked Moe team. The boys have most certainly improved over the last month and will be very keen to add to their points tally when they play Sale Green team next week prior to the mid holiday break.
This week’s Trafalgar Boys and Menswear team player of the day went to Flynn George.
